Through our multi-faceted programs, military families can access veteran and crisis housing assistance and receive ongoing family support that together helps them become stronger, more stable and safer.
Through its programs, Operation Homefront provides various forms of assistance to military families, such as critical financial assistance, as well as housing assistance programs for veterans, including transitional housing (villages), transitional housing for veterans, temporary housing (apartments) and permanent housing. This ensures that short-term problems do not turn into long-term crises for families.
Operation Homefront recognizes that service members and their families should not have to face immediate financial crises alone. That’s why we offer our key financial assistance program and provide emergency financial assistance to veterans and their families. Our program addresses critical financial gaps including mortgage payments, rent, utilities, auto repairs, home repairs, delinquent bills, baby essentials and groceries.

Our professional staff guides the process and checks the family’s financial needs before providing support. We provide assistance in the form of grants, not loans, and we pay service providers directly or provide food cards to families.
Transitional Housing (Villages), one of Operation Homefront’s veteran housing assistance programs, serves as a bridge for families during the long period between the end of military pay and the beginning of veterans’ benefits, or while veterans’ disability claims are being processed and received. The program offers two- and three-bedroom apartments in San Diego, California for wounded, ill and injured warriors and their families. Gaithersburg, Maryland; and San Antonio, Texas. Our villages not only provide a home for families during these challenging times, but also reduce financial stress and provide a comprehensive package of family support and financial planning services.
Operation Homefront’s veterans housing assistance programs recognize that the transition to civilian life can be challenging for many veterans and their families, especially when it comes to homeownership. Some families may not have the funds for a down payment or may not be able to maintain home ownership.
To address this issue, Operation Homefront launched the Transitional Homes for Veterans program in 2018. The program gives eligible families the opportunity to live in a single-family home rent-free for two to three years while also receiving financial counseling and social support.

Operation Homefront is committed to providing long-term stability to military families, and one of the ways we do that is through the Veterans Permanent Homes Program.
Permanent Homes for Veterans offers a comprehensive approach to homeownership for veterans and their families. The program provides mortgage-free homes and pairs families with dedicated associates and financial advisors who provide guidance and support throughout the process. Our goal is to help families not only to own a home, but also to live successfully in their new homes.
Since its inception in 2012, the PHV program has successfully served over 700 families. Of these, 680 families successfully completed the program and received house documents without mortgage obligations. We are proud to be a part of their journey and are committed to continuing to support veterans and their families as they transition to civilian life.
At Operation Homefront, we believe that every member of the military family deserves our support. That’s why we do everything we can to show our appreciation and celebrate their contributions. Our annual Military Child of the Year Awards is one of the most important events of the year, honoring extraordinary military children who have demonstrated exceptional resilience and leadership in the face of adversity.
