SCUSD has approximately 250 MEP students and Martinez knows them all. They meet with families to determine if they qualify for the MEP program and provide them with advice and support throughout the year. He also advises students on the coveted Camp Scholarship. Children under the age of 22 may qualify for the MEP program if their parent, guardian or spouse, or if they themselves are migrant workers or fishermen, have moved or changed school or school district within the past 36 months.
At the iD Tech Computer Camp, MEP students learned to program and solve engineering problems by designing computer games and building robots in a comfortable environment with tech-savvy youth instructors recruited by iD Tech across the country.
“I like it because I’m learning about robots, I’m learning how to make robots. It has a motor and you can program it with a computer,” said Frieda, a 7th-grader at Peterson Middle School, with her brother Johan, a 4th-grader at Brawley Elementary School, at the camp. Attended the camp, he has a computer at home, but it doesn’t work.
Miguel, a Petersen 8th grader, was “having fun” designing video games. His brother and sister Peterson, Joanie, a 7th grader, and Valerie, a 4th grader at Ponderosa Elementary School, were also at the computer camp. Valerie was creating a “female superhero” who would “escape asteroids coming from the sky to Earth.” A family shares a computer at home.
Northern Cheyenne Tribal Education Document Requirements
The Immigrant Education Program was authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. A 2001 law requires states to close achievement gaps by providing all children with access to a high-quality education. Funded by federal grants to state educational agencies, the MEP establishes or enhances existing educational programs for immigrant children.
“For more than a decade, we’ve sent dozens of immigrant education program students to our [computer] camps,” said Karen Thurm Safran, vice president of strategic partnerships at ID Tech. “It’s an opportunity students might not otherwise have and it helps them with their studies and builds their self-confidence. “It gives them an insight into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers.”
Registration is now open for the Santa Clara University Summer Technology Camps run by ID Tech and will match any $500 scholarship designated one-to-one for an MEP student.
Individuals or organizations interested in sponsoring a student may contact Safran for information at: [email protected]. For information about iD Tech Camps, open to all students, visit www.idtech.com or call 1-888-709-8324.

This is a time when we need to reach out and connect with resources that want to make this a little easier: Find places that have scholarships specifically designed for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

They want you to write articles that dive deep into inspiration porn…which can be really hard to write. It may sound disgusting. I understand it’s a decision you have to make whether you want to go that route or not.
