Guidelines For Scholarship – With the scholarship, we support young talented people from abroad who have engaged socially in voluntary work in their homeland. We firmly believe that education is the key to improving living conditions in the poorer countries of the world. That is why, in cooperation with other non-profit organizations, we award scholarships to young, dedicated international talents for university studies or apprenticeships in Berlin. The full scholarship includes tuition fees, accommodation in our internal student housing and a monthly living allowance.
From the beginning of their studies, scholarship holders start, develop and implement their own social non-profit projects. Ideally, these projects are strongly linked to the work of other non-profit organizations based in the recipient’s home country to improve living conditions there. Upon successful completion of their studies, fellows are expected to return to their home country, where they will continue working on their projects and apply the skills and knowledge acquired during their stay in Berlin. is available for guidance and mentoring.

Guidelines For Scholarship
One of the most important conditions for obtaining a scholarship is the scholarship recipient’s intention to return to their home country after completing their studies and work there for at least 18 months. Thus, from the beginning of the scholarship, it supports all scholarship recipients in realizing their professional goals in their home countries. This takes place through connection with other organizations, assistance in the targeted search for employment in the scholarship recipients’ home countries, and the subsequent preparation of working materials. In addition, all developed social non-profit projects should have strong links with the fellows’ home countries.

Currently, our scholarship is reserved for students from Eastern Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. In our opinion, these regions need the most development support given the current economic and/or social situation. The Global Laureate Scholarship was established in 2004 to recognize and reward the most talented students from countries outside the United States. who choose to visit NEBRASKA. Global Laureate Scholarship recipients join Regents Scholars, David Distinguished Scholars and others as recipients of NEBRASKA’s commitment to academic excellence and the enrollment of top students.
This scholarship provides $15,000 toward UNL tuition per academic year for students who enroll in at least fifteen credit hours each semester. Your NEBRASKA student account will receive $7,500 each semester. This is a renewable scholarship for a further three years if you meet the conditions for continued eligibility as stated below.
Recipients must not remain residents of Nebraska. Any individual who acquires permanent residency for the purpose of paying tuition in the country automatically forfeits the Global Laureate Scholarship.
A student must earn an average of 15 credit hours each semester to complete the eight semester requirements. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 UNL credit hours) in each semester of the academic year (fall and spring semesters) to receive the benefit. These hours must be officially registered by the sixth day of class each semester.

*Note: Scholarship is prorated for enrollment in less than 15 credits Fall/Spring: 100% ($7,500/term) for 15 or more credits, 93% ($6,975/term) for 14 credits, 87% ($6,525 /term) for 13 credits, 80% ($6000) for 12 credits, and 0% for less than 12 credits. Enrollment rates are determined by the census. Adding mini-courses after the total will not result in an extension of the scholarship.
Attendance at summer courses is not required to renew this scholarship, as it cannot be applied for during the summer.
The recipient must successfully complete 24 UNL credit hours each academic year (fall and spring semester). Successful completion is defined as the sum of all NEBRASKA credit hours completed with a grade of A through D- or Pass (P). Years I, N, W, F and NR are not considered successfully completed. Repeated courses are counted only once and must be reported for consecutive semesters (ie, full-time by the sixth day of classes each semester).
Recipients must remain in good academic standing at the university, which requires maintaining satisfactory academic progress toward graduation and a cumulative grade point average of 2000 measured at the end of each spring semester. The University calculates the grade point average to three decimal places and does not round them off.

The scholarship is terminated if the recipient withdraws from the school or fails to enroll in consecutive semesters of the academic year, unless an exception is granted due to extenuating circumstances. Withdrawing completely or falling below full-time during the repayment period will result in your scholarship being reduced to the non-resident part of the tuition fee.
Most campus-wide academic scholarships are not stackable, but can be combined with your college or departmental awards. Recipients of this award may not combine the benefits of any tuition reciprocity agreement with another state or with another federal, state or university program where the benefit is the payment of tuition to a non-resident (in whole or in part).
For Global Experience Programs, this scholarship may be used for UNL course credit (if UNL non-resident tuition is charged). This scholarship cannot be used for course credit that will be transferred from another institution. Students who remain eligible for the Global Laureate Scholarship do not need to reapply each year; awards will be automatically reevaluated at the end of each academic year. Consideration for other upperclassman scholarships may be obtained by completing the Scholarship Application for Current Undergraduates at MyRED.unl.edu. Students can only receive one University Global Scholarship. Recipients of Global Scholarships are not eligible for additional merit-based university scholarships, including scholarships from established partnership programs, http://go.unl.edu/global-partnerships.
