Gcu Outside Scholarships – Grand Canyon College was organized on August 1, 1949 with 16 faculty members and approximately 100 students in Prescott, AZ. In 1951, the university moved to a 90-acre site in West Phoenix and was accredited in 1968 by the Commission on Higher Education. Founded as a Baptist-affiliated institution with an emphasis on religious studies, the school initially offered a graduate program. Programs have expanded to include science, education, business, music and art. It was during this period that the university became known for producing successful teachers, nurses and health professionals in the South West.
GCU’s campus continues to grow to meet the needs of students and enhance the higher education experience. Here’s a photo of the campus today, a home away from home for the Lopezes.
