“It had a lot to do with the location — we’re a little bit bigger here and we feel we can meet the needs of our members at this location,” said office manager Nadine Romay. “It’s a little bigger city.”

The office, formerly located in the Plaza at Burr Corners on Tolland Turnpike, made the switch in late February. “We closed for business at the old location on Saturday, Feb. 26, and reopened here [at the new location] Monday morning [Feb. 28] at 8:30 a.m. without skipping a beat,” Romay said.

Despite the apparent change, AAA confirmed that it will continue to provide the same automotive and travel services to its members. “The AAA Manchester office will continue to serve the needs of auto, travel, insurance buyers and more in this new office,” AAA said in a press release.
The new location is also close to the freeway, Romay said. “This is another phase of the migration — we’re open to our members,” Romay said. “We’re very close to major highways — we’re close to I-84 and I-291 is right around the corner. You know, AAA – we’re all about our members; we are all concerned with the needs of our members.”

Additionally, travelers looking for travel ideas and vacation discounts can meet with a travel agent who can help them find deals that fit their budgets, AAA said. Customers can also meet with an AAA insurance agent to get a free quote on their home, auto and more.
The AAA driving school is also moving to new premises, which will be better due to the larger space. “Being a little bit bigger, we also found that we have enough capacity to take care of our kids in the driving schools … they have their own space and it’s been good to have them involved in the business,” Romay said. “It’s a very busy driving school. It’s one of the best, and I’m not saying that because I work for AAA.”
According to AAA Community Services Coordinator Jacklyn Ghergurovich, the driving school at AAA’s new Manchester office can have 30 students per class; the old office only accommodates 24 people.

“They run two hours of driving school at the same time – one on Monday/Wednesday and the other on Tuesday/Thursday,” he said. They also run an eight-hour program for adults twice a month.
In the 2010 calendar year, 175 youth went through AAA’s driver education program, and approximately 220 adults went through the eight-hour course.
According to Ghergurovich, the Manchester office is one of the busiest in the region. “They issue a lot of licenses and AAA members all day long,” said Ghergurovich, who said there are other AAA offices in West Hartford, Plainville, Avon, Enfield, Cromwell, Waterford and Old Saybrook.
Romay said he finds people often forget that AAA renews licenses for Connecticut, allowing customers to avoid a frustrating trip to a DMV office. “It’s like a well-kept secret,” Romay said.

Romay also spoke about the services offered by the AAA financial sector. “The finance department is based in West Hartford, but we’re more of a liaison. We do a lot … we open CDs for customers; we close loans and have some of the best interest rates on auto loans. We also do debt settlement seminars,” he said.
The new premises will enable the Manchester office to double the number of insurance agents. Romay explained: “At the old site we only had two insurance companies, but now we will have four because our insurance sector is one of the fastest growing sectors – just like our travel sector. Even at the new location, we have a lot of visitors because business is booming. ” There are a total of 18 employees in the new office.
Customers and employees have been very successful with the new location. “Everyone really likes the light; it’s shiny and new. The space is large and open – there are many windows. Who doesn’t like anything shiny and new?” observed Romay.
