The American Automobile Association (“AAA” or “Triple-A”) was founded on March 4, 1902, in Chicago, Illinois, in response to the lack of roads and roads suitable for automobiles.

The first AAA card was issued in 1905. AAA began publishing hotel catalogs in 1917. AAA launched the School Safety Program in 1920, the first driver safety program, providing materials to local schools, including badges and identity cards.

The AAA formed the Racing Board, later known as the Racing Board, in 1902 to administer the Vanderbilt Cup International Auto Race on Long Island, New York. The National Racing Board sanctioned the Indianapolis 500 and awarded the race’s national championship in 1905, 1916, 1920–1941, and 1946–1955.
After the 1955 Le Mans crash, the AAA decided that auto racing had lost its purpose, and the Automobile Club of America was formed to handle the sanctioning/sanctioning process. Realizing that automobiles were a danger to pedestrians, in 1936 the AAA began a pedestrian safety program with the support of the Automobile Safety Foundation. The AAA was to conduct and publish an extensive pedestrian safety study (1938) aimed at reducing pedestrian fatalities. AAA’s Pedestrian Safety Program began in 1937 and focuses nationwide on pedestrian safety by identifying cities, counties and states that have demonstrated the best pedestrian safety programs.
AAA also provided services to the US government during the war. In the 1940s, AAA provided its services to the Defense Council Advisory Commission.

The decline in production due to the war increased the need to maintain automobiles and related products. In doing its part to aid in the war, the AAA placed the art supplies in the Department of the Army; Conducted motor vehicle driving training (1943); obtained an order from the War Management Agency to stop the sale of certain auto-destructive solutions (1943); Begins campaign to alleviate growing poverty of motor vehicles (1943); tracked tires and gasoline (1943); and, in cooperation with the Red Cross and military hospitals, established a program to train veteran amphibious drivers (1944). The AAA card was used at the 1984 World’s Fair in Louisiana where 13,000 complete AAA card images were transmitted on laser optical disc to display the automotive equipment in the Chrysler Pavilion. AAA experimented with an online travel information system (OTIS) in the 1980s, which was actually integrated with another user service called AAA Travel Match. During a 1983 congressional hearing on the Auto Theft Act, the Michigan chapter of the AAA (known as the Automobile Club of Michigan) reported that auto theft had an estimated cost per vehicle and testimony about rapid development, in order to support the stamp. A new driver education program, “Teacher Driver Education”, was launched by AAA in 1996 to focus on the role of the classroom in driver education.
